IN THIS COMPOSITION ROCKWELL SHOWS the boy wrapped up in youth's eternal fascination with fire, while his grandfather responds to the waning of the year by striking a philosophical pose as the geese head south. Fall, Rockwell seems to say, separates youth from age more than any other season.
