Between 1918 and 1976, Rockwell created 49 paintings for the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Brown & Bigelow calendar. Every person depicted had to be the idealized version of a scout or scout leader, and every uniform had to be depicted correctly. The tents and other outdoors gear used by scouts in the paintings had to be the right type and could not look like army surplus
